Jim Faughn is a native of Metropolis, Illinois. After his high school graduation and receiving a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, he married the former Donna Turner. They returned to Metropolis to teach at the high school from which they had both graduated. During this time, Jim was baptized into Christ and subsequently began preaching on a part-time basis.
In 1978, he began his first full-time local work in Vienna, Illinois. While preaching in Vienna, Jim also earned a master’s degree from what is now Amridge University.
Besides his work in Vienna, Jim has preached full-time in Dexter, Missouri, and Paducah, Kentucky. During his time with the church in Dexter, he made two mission trips to India.
In 1996, Jim and Donna moved to Paducah, Kentucky to work for both the offices of admission and advancement for Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee. In 2001, Jim returned to full-time preaching with the Central church of Christ in Paducah. He retired from full-time preaching at the end of 2016, but continues to serve as one of the elders there as he has since 2003.
Jim and Donna have two children and five grandchildren. Their daughter, Amber, is married to Mark Ray who preaches for the Benton, Kentucky church of Christ. Adam, their son serves as a preacher and elder with the Central church of Christ in Paducah, Kentucky. Along with other members of his family, Jim contributes blog posts to the website A Legacy of Faith. He is also the author of three books.
